LAS VEGAS, April 2, 2008 /PRNewswire/ -- CTIA WIRELESS -- Working with vlingo, Yahoo! today debuted voice-powered Yahoo! oneSearch, providing a new input method for the industry's leading mobile search service. During his keynote speech today, Marco Boerries, Yahoo!'s executive vice president of Connected Life, unveiled his vision for the next frontier of mobile search and as part of this vision, debuted voice-enabled Yahoo! oneSearch featuring vlingo's advanced speech recognition technology. Available beginning today for select Blackberry users in the United States, the new voice-enabled Yahoo! oneSearch can be downloaded from http://m.yahoo.com/voice . Over the coming months, the product is expected to support additional devices and become available internationally.
"Consumers have not been able to access the full potential of the mobile Web because they have been held back by limited user interfaces," said Dave Grannan, CEO, vlingo. "Vlingo and Yahoo! improve the experience by giving mobile consumers total control over the Web by combining the power of speech with the leading mobile search service."
Vlingo gives consumers control over the mobile Internet with the power of their voices. Users do not need to change how they speak or memorize a list of commands. They can say what they want, how they want, and vlingo captures the results -- word for word. Vlingo's voice-enabling technology is a natural input method for mobile search queries and provides Yahoo! oneSearch users with a simple way to access the instant answers and relevant information. With the most accurate system on the market that gets even better with use, vlingo gives users the ability to freely mix typing and talking with no limits on what they can say.
Voice-enabled Yahoo! oneSearch represents the first collaboration between vlingo and Yahoo!. Separately today, vlingo announced that it has secured a series B financing round, led by Yahoo! Inc. (see separate announcement, "Vlingo Secures $20 Million in Series B Financing Led by Internet Leader Yahoo!").
