Sony Ericsson, Ingram Micro and Intellisync to Provide Mobility Solution for Enterprises, SMBs and Mobile Professionals
Posted on: Wednesday, 2 March 2005, 09:00 CST
SAN JOSE, Calif., March 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Intellisync Corporation , a leading developer and marketer of wireless software for the worldwide mobile communications industry, announced today that it has teamed with Sony Ericsson and Ingram Micro to provide a complete mobility solution for retail and VAR customers of Ingram Micro. This combined offering will feature an out-of-the-box wireless push email solution -- "Powered by Intellisync(TM)" -- provisioned on Sony Ericsson P910a smartphones.
The joint solution will ship with a SIM card and the Intellisync client, written as an application for the P910a's Symbian OS. Intellisync's client will enable wireless email and systems management capabilities, such as theft/loss protection or backup and restore, via a service offering hosted by Intellisync. Ingram Micro -- the world's largest technology distributor and a leading technology sales, marketing and logistics company -- will offer the complete bundle to its expansive network of VARS and retail wireless resellers.
"For this joint wireless email solution, it was critical to select a mobility software provider who could seamlessly and securely connect our P910a smartphones to virtually any of today's popular Internet email or corporate groupware servers," said Gregor Bleimann, head of Enterprise Business Solutions at Sony Ericsson. "By working with Intellisync, we are leveraging robust wireless messaging technology that is renowned for supporting a broad range of applications, devices and data types. We look forward to teaming with Intellisync on similar go-to-market programs in the future."
Intellisync enables users of P910a smartphones to connect to leading groupware/email servers such as Microsoft Exchange and Lotus Domino, along with POP and IMAP mail servers, for delivery of push-based email, calendars, contacts and tasks. Intellisync received Network Computing magazine's 2004 Well-Connected Award as "Best Mobile Wireless Email System," and has been recognized by Gartner as one of only two "Challengers" to RIM in the wireless email category.
Sony Ericsson's P910a smartphone offers users a powerful combination of phone and PDA for access to email and Web browsing while on the move. The P910a has the widest variety of input methods, including keyboard, natural handwriting and T9, so that users can choose the most convenient way to access the phone's many functions. Triple band GSM/GPRS coverage gives a global level of freedom to use one of the smartest mobile communications tools around. With Intellisync's embedded client, the P910a can just as easily be part of a secure corporate IT network, or used by individuals to receive their personal email.
"Intellisync is delighted to have been selected as the mobility software of choice for this exciting joint solution," added Clyde Foster, Intellisync's chief operating officer. "We believe that this alliance with Sony Ericsson and Ingram Micro validates Intellisync's position as a leading provider of mobility solutions to both the enterprise and mobile operator markets. We look forward to potentially extending this solution to resellers outside the U.S. later this year."
This announcement coincides with Intellisync's selection as a charter member of the Sony Ericsson Business Partner Program, announced at the 3GSM World Congress in Cannes, France last month. Through the new Sony Ericsson Business Partner Program, Intellisync will have the opportunity to collaborate with Sony Ericsson on a variety of additional go-to-market programs aimed at both the enterprise and mobile operator markets.
