Motorola has introduced a new addition to its machine-to-machine (M2M) wireless module family for secure Wi-Fi access for wireless broadband communications.
The W24 M2M module is part of Motorola's vision of supporting all technologies with a common form factor enabling integration into M2M applications, including fleet management, security, and remote control.
Motorola said the W24 provides high-speed throughput and secure access to IP networks through wireless LANs and cellular networks. It also supports Wi-Fi, cellular data routing by linking local subnet to the internet, enabling a link between local area networks and wide area networks.
It supports the IEEE 802.11b/g wireless specifications, and features TCP/UDP, HTTP, FTP, SFTP, DHCP, PPP, SMTP, POP3, Telnet, and DNS internet protocols.
Aharon Mirsky, vice president and director of wireless modules business unit at Motorola, said: "The W24 module was developed in response to M2M platform developers needs to reduce costs by concentrating communications between multiple devices via Wi-Fi access points."
The M2M communications market is expected to grow from $24bn in 2004 to an estimated $270bn by 2010, according to research from Alexander Resources.
