The 12th Annual Webby Awards Committee has announced that it has nominated two of OR-Live's programs for the Best Events and Live Broadcasts of 2007. The two webcasts are Breast Cancer: Reconstruction Immediately Following Radical Mastectomy from Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, originally broadcast October 18, 2007, and Heart Transplant Procedure From Montefiore-Einstein Heart Center, originally broadcast on September 19, 2007. A total of five programs were nominated in the category and OR-Live is the only company that has two entries being considered for the Award. The Webby Awards received over 10,000 entries.
Hailed as the "Oscars of the Internet" by the New York Times, The Webby Awards are the leading international awards honoring excellence on the Internet, including Websites, interactive advertising, online film and video and mobile Websites. The Webby Awards are presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, a 550-person judging academy whose members include Internet co-inventor Vinton Cerf, R/GA's Chief Bob Greenberg, "Simpson's" creator Matt Groening, Arianna Huffington and Harvey Weinstein.
"The Webby Awards honors the outstanding Websites that are setting the standards for the Internet," said David-Michel Davies, executive director of The Webby Awards. "OR-Live's Webby Award nominations are a testament to the skill, ingenuity, and vision of its creators." The Webby Awards Derek Howard comments, "It is amazing to have 2 of your entries as the top 5 in your given category."
"We are honored that the judges from the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences has nominated two OR-Live broadcasts. Breast cancer and heart disease are conditions which affect many individuals and these two presentations provide medical professionals and patients with extremely topical information," says Peter Gailey, President, OR-Live, Inc.
Pew Internet & American Life Project research shows that, as more Americans come online, an increasing number of them rely on the internet for important health information. Many Americans are deepening their connections to the internet, whether for entertainment or to help a loved one through a crisis. And though the audience for the latest entertainment release may be larger than the audience for clinical trial information, OR-Live believes the impact on someone's life in the latter case is dramatically different in scale.
Individuals can cast their own votes for OR-Live's nominations in The Webby People's Voice Awards at http://pv.webbyawards.com through May 1st.
