Bell Mobility First Wireless Carrier to Launch Application to Deliver Laptop Functionality to Handheld Devices

Posted on: Wednesday, 9 March 2005, 12:00 CST

Treo 600 Smartphone Users Receive Real-Time Access to E-mail and Desktop Applications

Bell Canada, the country's communications leader, today announced Bell Mobility is the first wireless carrier globally to partner with Sproqit Technologies to deliver remote access from a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) to all desktop applications, including push e-mail. Sproqit Personal Edition allows customers to benefit from complete online and offline functionality directly from a handheld device, like the Treo(TM) 600 smartphone from palmOne.

Sproqit Personal Edition provides real-time, secure connectivity that lets users remotely access, attach, read and send any file on their desktop or corporate network from their handheld device. Small and medium business users, small office/home office users, and mobile professionals will benefit from push e-mail, remote access to corporate files, and access to calendar and contacts to create and accept meeting requests.

"At Bell, we're consistently developing new applications and enhancing our network to deliver increased value and choice to our customers," said Ron Cihocki, Vice President, Hardware Management, Business Marketing and Operations Support. "Sproqit Personal Edition gives our customers another innovative way to benefit from our 1X digital network by providing wireless access from their handheld device to data rich applications available on their PC."

"Sproqit is thrilled to have Bell Mobility, Canada's wireless leader, as our first global carrier partner," said Peter Mansour, founder and CEO of Sproqit Technologies. "Bell Mobility Treo 600 customers have a simple and easy way to wirelessly access their desktop, including e-mail, calendar and contacts, while leaving their laptops at home."

Sproqit Personal Edition provides secure remote access to a desktop or corporate network using a single 128-bit SSL connection to the handheld device. By establishing a direct connection to the desktop, which does not require server software or special IT configurations, information remains up-to-date on both the device and the desktop.

By visiting www.bell.ca/sproqit, users can install the Sproqit software from a desktop computer and experience a 14 day trial. After the trial, users have the option to keep Sproqit Personal Edition for $8 per month, applied to their Bell Mobility bill.
