White Rock Networks' ``Optical Edge'' Access Platform Gains RUS Acceptance; VLX2006 Offers Cost-Effective, Carrier-Class Ethernet and TDM Services

Posted on: Wednesday, 9 March 2005, 15:00 CST

The Rural Utilities Service (RUS) Technical Standards Committee "A" (Telecommunications) has accepted White Rock Networks' VLX2006(TM) SONET-based Optical Access platform for inclusion in the RUS List of Materials. The RUS acceptance includes RUS Buy American Status for White Rock's VLX2006, enabling America's rural telecommunications service providers to obtain low-interest funds to deploy the VLX2006 for delivery of both native DS1/DS3 and FastE/GbE services in a carrier-class, environmentally hardened package.

The VLX2006 is the first OC-48 ADM to offer fully protected Ethernet ports for the transport of business-critical traffic -- all for under $10K. The unique Ethernet protection allows carriers to offer data and video transport with the same carrier-class reliability that has always been expected of traditional TDM traffic.

The VLX2006 is fully compatible with White Rock's VLX2020(R) OC-48/OC-192 SONET and Switching Transport Platform, which the RUS accepted for inclusion in the RUS List of Materials, and Buy American Status in March, 2004. The VLX2020 simultaneously provides both TDM and Ethernet aggregation in a compact, low-cost package, reducing both Central Office Edge-router and Digital Cross Connect system (DCS) costs allowing it to be a cost-effective hub node for multiple VLX2006-based optical access rings.

"Rural telephone companies require flexible solutions that can support multiple services but at a minimum cost," said Lonnie Martin Founder/CEO of White Rock Network. "RUS acceptance of our VLX2020 and now our VLX2006 makes it easier for rural carriers to take advantage of the cost savings that come from using our products. The VLX2006 is ideally suited for delivering TDM and Ethernet services for triple play applications; and its temperature hardening, small size and low cost makes it perfect for bringing broadband to outside plant cabinets."

Rural carriers are also provided a unique network management solution with White Rock's VLXpert(R) PC Element Management System which enables the full set of management capabilities provided by White Rock's Unix-based VLXpert platform. VLXpert PC which operates on a desktop PC is designed to manage rural networks at a much lower cost than typical management platforms.

The VLX2006 and VLX2020 as well as other members of White Rock's product family will be on display at OFC/NFOEC 2005 in Anaheim, Calif., March 8-10, 2005 (White Rock's booth #3014).

About White Rock Networks

White Rock Networks (www.whiterock.com) provides carriers with a family of next-generation optical transport and access platforms that enable the cost-effective delivery of high-speed services in metro areas. The company's innovative building-block architecture provides carriers with "step-function" improvements in their capital and operating costs, as well as deployment flexibility in serving a variety of metro customers.

About the VLX2006 and VLX2020

White Rock's VLX2006(TM) is the first OC-48 ADM to offer fully protected Ethernet ports for the transport of business-critical traffic and the first SONET OC-48 access product under $10K. The VLX2006 enables carriers to offer Ethernet transport with the same carrier-class reliability that has always been expected of traditional TDM traffic.

White Rock's VLX2020(R) OC-48/192 SONET Transport/Switching Platform supports multiple optical access or transport rings while simultaneously providing intelligent DCS capabilities for both legacy TDM and Ethernet traffic in a compact, low-cost package.
