MELVILLE, N.Y., April 21, 2008 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Comtech Telecommunications Corp. (Nasdaq:CMTL) announced today that its Tempe, Arizona-based subsidiary, Comtech EF Data Corp., has received a $1.3 million order for satellite modems that will support cellular backhaul networks in Africa and the Middle East. The order includes Comtech EF Data's CDM-QxL Multi-Channel Satellite Modems with DoubleTalk(R) Carrier-in-Carrier(R) and the CDM-570L Satellite Modems with IP Modules.
The CDM-QxL is a multi-channel satellite modem that features the award-winning DoubleTalk Carrier-in-Carrier. Carrier-in-Carrier(R) is based on Applied Signal Technology's DoubleTalk(R) bandwidth compression technology. DoubleTalk uses "Adaptive Cancellation," a patented technology that allows the transmit and receive carriers of a full-duplex satellite link to be transmitted in the same transponder space. Users can reduce operating costs, increase throughput or availability without additional transponder resources, and/or reduce capital expenditures.
The CDM-570L is an entry-level satellite modem that provides cost-effective performance and flexibility in a 1RU package. The advanced FPGA-based architecture along with the internal flash memory allows for easy field upgrades via the Ethernet port. The Optional IP Module for the CDM-570L enables efficient IP networking and transport over satellite links.
Fred Kornberg, President and Chief Executive Officer of Comtech Telecommunications Corp., commented, "By deploying Comtech's bandwidth efficient solutions, cellular operators can minimize expenditures and cost-effectively expand their network coverage."
