SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 9, 2003--
Aimed at Helping Customers Increase Manageability and Improve
Performance with Oracle(R) Database 10g
Network Appliance, Inc. (Nasdaq:NTAP), a leading provider of enterprise network storage solutions, today announced that it is working with Oracle Corp. to help customers develop, deploy, and manage enterprise grid computing architectures. Through collaborative work, Oracle and NetApp will identify opportunities to further enhance the benefits of storage management features built into Oracle(R) Database 10g such as Automatic Storage Management.
NetApp(R) storage solutions complement Oracle Database 10g by enabling data provisioning, high performance, and continuous availability. Clusters of high-performing Linux servers combined with NetApp storage, is an ideal architecture for the CPU and data provisioning benefits of Oracle's grid computing software. NetApp storage systems support a wide range of architectures from SAN to NAS with protocols such as FCP, NFS, iSCSI, and DAFS, which can make enterprise grid computing very flexible. All these data serving mechanisms are built into the same architecture and that means lower complexity and higher manageability to build and operate an enterprise grid architecture.
"When you talk about enterprise grid computing with Oracle Database 10g, you also have to talk about networked storage. Without it, grids just won't work. At NetApp, networked storage is in our DNA," said Phil Williams, vice president, Strategic Marketing at Network Appliance. "We've provided maximum availability and high performance networked storage since NetApp's inception, and that makes us an especially good fit with Oracle Database 10g -- the first database designed for enterprise grid computing."
"Oracle Database 10g delivers unique grid technology that enables the pooling of low-cost servers and storage to create a database solution with the highest quality of service at the lowest cost," said Juan Loaiza, vice president of Systems Technology, Oracle Corp. "NetApp continues to be a strategic ally for Oracle. NetApp's leading edge storage products are a natural fit for Oracle's grid environments."
