Posted on: Thursday, 4 September 2003, 06:00 CDT

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 4, 2003--With an emphasis on system design, the Network Processors Conference (NPC) West 2003 will feature the key developments in the networking silicon market. These developments will take center stage as the leading companies in the NPU market unveil their latest products and services at the fifth Network Processors West Conference and Exhibition October 21-23 in San Jose, California, at the Parkside Hall.

The only conference totally dedicated to Network Processors, NPC West's program will include presentations, tutorials and panels of interest to those who use, make, support and market network processors. "Today, I am cautiously optimistic as we see several signs that a recovery is underway. As new systems are being designed OEMs are turning to standard silicon as a means of producing competitive, differentiated equipment on a limited budget. This is good news for the networking silicon vendors as it brings increasing opportunities their way," said Linley Gwennap, Principal Analyst for The Linley Group and NPC Conference Director. "NPC2003 West provides the ideal opportunity to get up to speed on the latest news and developments driving this market."

Here are a just a few of the many conference highlights:

-- Xelerated will disclose the architectural details of its

second-generation network processor designed for improved

cost/performance across a wide range of applications.

-- Intel will disclose details of its new advanced C compiler for

the IXP2XXX NPUs. The talk will include specific examples of

how the advanced technology automatically partitions code

among multiple processing elements.

-- Motorola will introduce the latest addition to its PowerQUICC

III family of integrated communications processors including

disclosures of product details, target applications, and how

their SoC architecture streamlines development.

-- IBM will disclose details of the PowerPRS 5G switch fabric and

how it can be used for meshed switching in smaller capacity

systems requiring QoS features.

-- Bay Microsystems will disclose "Biscayne," a programmable

classification processor with policing which targets

applications in excess of 10Gbps using 100's of ports.

-- Keynote by Jerry Fiddler, Chairman & Cofounder of Wind River

-- Keynote by Mark Granahan, Vice President of Agere Systems

-- In-depth seminars presented by The Linley Group

The Network Processors Conference 2003 West will attract OEMs, chipmakers, computer and communications equipment manufacturers, board and design services suppliers, integrators, system analysts, testing laboratories, consultants, marketers and providers of hardware and software support and tools for network processors.
