Siemens Demonstrates Advanced Communications Solutions for Enterprises and Carriers; Multiple Technology Platforms Converge to Offer Seamless, Unified Communication
Posted on: Monday, 14 March 2005, 09:00 CST
Siemens Communications, Inc., announced that the first public demonstrations of the Siemens HiPath(R) OpenScape(TM) collaboration portal, working with its Internet Protocol-based (IP) Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) platform, Siemens IMS@dvantage(TM), are being conducted at the CTIA Wireless trade show in New Orleans, March 14-16, in booth 5245. This powerful convergence of unified communication technologies delivers a presence-enabled homogenous communications environment. The outcome is a smarter, more effective way of working collaboratively that not only injects vitality into business processes but also boosts productivity and profitability.
The Siemens HiPath OpenScape solution is a SIP (Session Initiation Protocol)-based collaboration and personal productivity application suite that fits into an existing voice/data enterprise infrastructure and ties together various communication media. With presence awareness, drag-and-drop voice conferencing and one-click Web conferencing, the HiPath OpenScape solution enables workers to more efficiency reach contacts through their chosen modes of communication.
The Siemens IMS@vantage system delivers instant messaging, interactive mobile gaming, friend list/network presence detection, video telephony, Push and Talk over cellular, and a variety of other next-generation IP multimedia services across fixed and mobile networks. When combined with the right enabling platforms, Siemens IMS@dvantage can provide a complete service delivery ecosystem for the creation of rich multimedia services for next generation IP-based networks.
"This convergence of Siemens HiPath OpenScape and Siemens IMS@dvantage reaffirms our vision of advanced, unified communication working seamlessly across fixed, wireless, and enterprise networks," said Berndt Baumgartl, president, Mobile Division, Siemens Communications, Inc. "This will help an enterprise to gain advantages of real time collaboration and implement true mobile enterprise applications."
The HiPath OpenScape solution is a Web-based portal leveraging the Microsoft(R) Office Live Communications Server 2005 and Microsoft's "Istanbul" integrated communications client. By integrating IMS capabilities from the wireless domain with the OpenScape dashboard, Siemens is bringing real-time business communication tools to the enterprise market. For instance, it is possible to perform Push and Talk with a mobile user from the OpenScape desktop client; to integrate IMS presence into OpenScape solution's aggregated presence model; and stream video from a mobile device with IMS enabled QoS (quality of service) to the OpenScape desktop while doing Push and Talk in parallel.
Siemens has adopted a strategy of unified communications since the launch of its HiPath OpenScape collaboration portal in 2003. The company was recently identified by a leading independent research firm as the leader in this market segment.
