Sony Ericsson Announces Low Cost CDMA Telematics Module to Support Application Growth in Automotive and Industrial Segments

Posted on: Monday, 14 March 2005, 09:00 CST

NEW ORLEANS, March 14 /PRNewswire/ -- CTIA -- Sony Ericsson, the leader in automotive-grade cellular devices, today announced a low cost, CDMA telematics module to support the pervasive growth of automotive and industrial applications like driver navigation, security, cargo tracking, mobility services and infotainment. The CM52 not only cuts costs for integrators of telematics solutions, but it is tri-mode to support multiple cellular technologies and boasts the widest network coverage in North America.

Sony Ericsson has been the leader in telematics module development for more than four years and is heralded by its automotive customers for providing feature-rich, cost competitive and durable modules. The CM52 is equally poised to upset the market with a new price point and features that include fully implemented Mobile IP and support for AMPS 800, CDMA 800/1900, with the only 3W AMPS continuous operation mode in the industry. Additionally, the CM52 is a rugged design built to withstand the stringent environmental and industrial variables often present with automotive, freight and fleet applications, which is a fundamental design requirement.

"Telematics has always been a point of differentiation and leadership for Sony Ericsson, specifically in the OEM automotive and Fleet Management segments," said Anders Franzen, Corporate Vice President and Head of Sony Ericsson Machine to Machine Communications. "Thanks to the evolution of wireless networks, both the automotive manufacturers and industrial developers are aggressively building robust telematics applications to bring tracking, safety and monitoring services across all of their various product lines. With the capabilities that Sony Ericsson is offering in solutions like our CM52, telematics is becoming more of a standard, not a cost prohibitive feature, in new products."

Integration samples are currently available. For more information about Sony Ericsson's new CM52, visit the Pepcom media event for registered journalists and Booth #4931, Hall F at CTIA in New Orleans, Louisiana, March 14 - 16, 2005.
