MIDDLETOWN, N.Y., March 21 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Time Warner Cable of New York and New Jersey, the Sullivan County Board of Cooperative Education Services and Orange-Ulster County Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES) have announced an expanded Distance Learning Partnership to include real-time video conferencing to over 17 schools.
Through Time Warner Cable's relationship with Tut Systems, Inc. and Renovo Software, Inc., geographically dispersed teachers and students will be able to jointly participate in enriched learning experiences. BOCES students gain access to a broader base of information and instructors, and BOCES schools benefit by providing education through technology while keeping teaching and travel expenses to a minimum.
The joint distance learning solution is designed to meet the needs of the BOCES partnership which covers 38 school districts and more than 1,500,000 students across New York State. The deployment being announced today covers 2 of the 38 BOCES districts bringing real-time video conferencing to 17 schools in the Sullivan and Orange-Ulster BOCES school districts.
Time Warner Cable earlier deployed Tut Systems' ATM-based video edge devices to this market. As Time Warner Cable upgraded its Gigabit Ethernet backbone network and built new servers, they were able to deploy Astria(R) Content Processor (CP) products from Tut Systems. This deployment is an example of leading technology trends. The BOCES solution also includes a completely integrated scheduling system from Renovo Software. This scheduling system looks at each of the different districts' class schedules and allots the time that participating classes can use from each location.
"As the primary provider of video and data services in the mid Hudson Valley, we are excited to be working with the local Boces to extend educational programs to our customers," stated Bhupender Kaul, Vice President, Business Services. "Time Warner Cable is working with local school districts to extend their reach through our IP network to provide innovative distance learning initiatives to bring the classroom to the student," added Mr. Kaul.
"We are pleased to expand our existing relationship with Time Warner Cable and the local BOCES schools for IP-based distance learning solutions," stated Craig Bender, Vice President of Corporate Development and Marketing for Tut Systems. "With the high-quality, low-latency design of our joint solution, we are confident that the schools will gain an overall enhancement to their existing learning experience."
"Renovo Software is delighted to work with partners like Time Warner Cable and Tut Systems, organizations committed to distance education by providing exceptional IP video services," said Tim Eickhoff, Managing Partner. "In addition, we are pleased to deliver this solution with our partners to provide end users a seamless, feature-rich integrated solution." added Tim Skaja, Renovo Software.
