Acterna Selected By Looking Glass Networks to Provide 10Gb/S Ethernet and SONET/SDH Testers for Industry-Leading Data Transport Services
Posted on: Monday, 21 March 2005, 12:00 CST
Acterna, the leader in test and management solutions for consumer and business broadband communications, today announced it has been selected by Looking Glass Networks, Inc. a leading facilities-based provider of metropolitan data transport services, to ensure the reliable delivery of its high-bandwidth 10Gb/s services. Looking Glass purchased Acterna's all-in-one Transport Module for its T-BERD and MTS-8000 platforms, the industry's first integrated field solution for Ethernet, SONET, SDH, PDH and T-carrier networks, which was unveiled earlier this month at CeBIT 2005 in Hannover, Germany and OFC/NFOEC 2005 in Anaheim, California.
The Acterna Transport Module will enable Looking Glass, which owns physically diverse fiber networks in major metropolitan areas, to efficiently deploy its revenue-generating 10Gb/s and SONET/SDH services. The lightweight module (less than 15 pounds/seven kilograms) will also help Looking Glass quickly and reliably scale based on its customers' 10 Gb/s requirements and integrate them with other services and providers as needed.
"Acterna demonstrated a best-in-breed 10GigE and SONET/SDH test platform that not only meets today's demands but can also grow with our future needs," said John Carruth, vice president of Network Services, Looking Glass Networks. "Looking Glass prides itself on providing exceptional value and flexibility, as well as scalability that meets our customers' demands. Acterna's performance aligns very well with our goals."
Service levels and reliable performance are an integral part of Looking Glass' success. The Acterna Transport Module allows Looking Glass' customers to be assured that their services are performing in accordance with Looking Glass' exacting specifications even before delivery. Once services are delivered to the customer, it also provides Looking Glass with the ability to diagnose any level of service issue with the highest degree of confidence and in the quickest manner possible.
"Enterprises are rapidly scaling their networks to 10GigE performance levels, and Looking Glass is a provider that is meeting and exceeding the bandwidth demands of its customers worldwide," said Helmut Berg, president of Acterna's Telecom Division. "Our Transport Module enables the rapid and cost-effective deployment of this new technology and we look forward to working with Looking Glass to ensure the flexibility and continued innovation of its industry-leading services."
About Acterna's T-BERD/MTS optical testers
Combining multiple test capabilities with unprecedented levels of field modularity, Acterna's T-BERD/MTS-8000 is a scalable field platform for provisioning and maintaining short-haul, long-haul, FTTx, Metro, CWDM, transport, data and DWDM networks. Advanced modularity enables the T-BERD/MTS-8000 to integrate options for video microscope, VFL, light source, power meter, and optical talk set with application modules for SONET, SDH, Ethernet, multi-mode and single mode OTDRs, PMD, spectral attenuation, CD, WDM, and single-port and dual-port OSA. Compatibility with more than 10,000 field-proven units already deployed worldwide by every major telecommunications network operator enables easy migration to new network technologies while continuing to reduce expenses.
