Solid and Pinnacle Data Systems, Inc., Deliver Pre-Integrated AdvancedTCA Solution-Set to Tier One Telecom Equipment Manufacturers

Posted on: Tuesday, 22 March 2005, 06:00 CST

CUPERTINO, Calif., March 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Solid Information Technology, the leading supplier of embedded data management solutions for the networked infrastructure, today announced the availability of the newest software/hardware solution-set created by the Solid Partner Solution Program (PSP). Solid and its PSP partner, Pinnacle Data Systems, Inc. (PDSi) , have jointly developed a pre-integrated and proven hardware/software AdvancedTCA (ATCA) solution-set that Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) use to consolidate proprietary network components into a single open standard platform. The PDSi/Solid ATCA complete platform is capable of custom configuration to include a wide range of applications necessary for real-time communications services, optical transport, IP routers, wireless base stations, voice gateways, DSLAMs, soft switches and server farms.

As partners, Solid and PDSi are offering telecom equipment manufactures (TEMs) building high-availability devices for tier one carriers an advanced commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) solution that supports the deployment of highly available applications used in cellular phones.

Pre-testing Ensures Carrier-Grade Performance

Solid and PDSi employed the recently announced Telecom One (TM1) benchmark to pre-test performance of their jointly-developed COTS solution-set in a production environment. This well-defined benchmark measures the performance and speed of applications as they are developed and deployed so that TEMs and application developers can ensure the performance capacity of the PDSi/Solid solution-set when integrated with other middleware, platforms and operating systems for Tier One carriers. Unlike the well-known Transaction Processing Performance Council (TPC) benchmarks, which are based on enterprise and e-commerce applications, the TM1 benchmark specifically measures data activity against a Home Location Register (HLR). Every mobile phone call requires at least one access to the HLR, which lies at the core of every mobile telephone system. The HLR provides information that identifies the user, and lists the preferences, services and billing options for his or her account. The TM1 results from pre-testing the PDSi/Solid solution-set validate that Solid maximizes the performance of platforms and operating systems used in conjunction with the PDSi Integrated ATCA platform. The COTS solution-set helps reduce development risks, lowers total-cost-of-ownership and cuts the development cycle of complex applications that touch the HLR.

"OEMs and carriers benefit tremendously from pre-integrated COTS solutions. Now they can access a proven, high performance COTS solution-set from a single channel, which saves a tremendous amount of design, procurement and integration effort," said Christopher L. Winslow, PDSi president and chief operating officer. "OEMs turn to Solid and PDSi for a pre-tested hardware/software platform that scales, is amazingly flexible and is backed by the lifecycle management services of PDSi. Tier one and tier two Telecom Equipment Manufacturers (TEMs) deploying our newest solution-set discover they are now free to focus their time and money on building the applications, not the platforms, they need to stay competitive."

"Solid's PSP program is already helping to accelerate the deployment of advanced IP services needed in today's converging network infrastructures, mobile telematics applications and digital content delivery. Solid and PDSi are proud to join forces to deliver HA management solutions that can be employed across multiple computer platforms, including AdvancedTCA," said Jussi Harvela, president and CEO, Solid. "The modular communications components created by PSP partners support equipment and service providers in getting to market quickly with new revenue-generating services."
