Cariaccess Communications to Introduce VoIP Service to Islands of the Caribbean Using i2Telecom's VoiceStick-TM- Softphone

Posted on: Tuesday, 22 March 2005, 09:00 CST

Customers throughout the Eastern Caribbean can now sign up for i2Telecom Internet phone service

i2Telecom International, Inc. (OTCBB: ITUI), an emerging leader in voice/data communications technology for the Internet, including Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) services, today announced that its patent-pending VoiceStick(TM) has been selected as the exclusive device for the provision of Internet phone service to the customers of Cariaccess Communications. High-speed Internet subscribers in countries throughout the Eastern Caribbean, including Barbados, Dominica, St. Lucia, St. Vincent & the Grenadines and Trinidad & Tobago, can now sign up for VoiceStick(TM) service through VoIP-licensed Cariaccess Communications (St. Vincent) Ltd. Cariaccess Communications is the pre-eminent local "telecom startup" in the Southern Caribbean, with over 2,500 customers and offices in Barbados, Dominica, St. Lucia and St. Vincent & the Grenadines.

By the end of 2005, Cariaccess and i2Telecom plan to effectively build an alternative and competitive communications network for Internet voice and data transmission throughout the region that is interlinked with all major markets in North America, Europe and Asia.

"Cost-effective telecommunications networks are widely regarded as being of critical importance if the people and nations of the Caribbean are to be competitive in the world economy during the 21st Century," commented Paul Arena, chairman and chief executive officer of i2Telecom International, Inc. "We are delighted to partner with such an innovative company as Cariaccess Communications, which is committed to bringing the benefits of VoIP technology to consumers and businesses that currently pay some of the highest long-distance telephone rates in the world."

"This region of the world provides a unique opportunity to pilot VoIP technology due to its relative remoteness and a telecommunications pricing structure that is currently prohibitive for consumers and many businesses in the area," stated Anthony Gunn, managing director of Cariaccess Communications. "Residents of these islands frequently go for months without talking to family and friends on other islands or in the States, due to exorbitant pricing for traditional telecommunications services. The road to telecom deregulation is never easy and is fraught with many obstacles, and we recognize that that strength will lie in numbers as more and more telecom services are deregulated. We are very excited about this partnership and the opportunities that can be provided to our customers by this less expensive yet highly innovative technology."
