USCarrier Telecom Network Designated As Key Critical Infrastructure By The Department of Homeland Security
Posted on: Thursday, 8 May 2008, 12:00 CDT
USCarrier Telecom, a provider of wholesale long-haul fiber optic transport, today announced that the company has been approved by the The Department of Homeland Security as part of America's Wireless Priority Service (WPS) key critical infrastructure in the event of a National or Regional emergency.
WPS provides authorized Federal, State, and local government leaders and critical private sector personnel and infrastructure providers with priority wireless service during times of emergency. Combined with the Government Emergency Telecommunications Service (GETS), WPS significantly improves cellular call completion rates. In times of congestion, authorized users are given priority, greatly increasing their chances of call completion.
"We are very proud that we are part of the WPS program to provide our Nation's leaders, first responders and key critical personnel with wireless priority communications during periods of emergency," said Jack Roberts, Vice President of Sales for USCarrier. "As a wholesale carrier we work hard with all of our industry partners to maintain the reliability of wireless communications services. We are committed to supporting America's homeland security and National Communications System by vigilantly maintaining our network infrastructure and supporting our wireless network customers."
The National Communications System, part of the Department of Homeland Security's Directorate for Preparedness consists of 24 Federal member departments and agencies and is responsible for ensuring the availability of a viable national security and emergency preparedness (NS/EP) communications infrastructure. Additional information regarding the NCS WPS program can be obtained on the NCS website at http://wps.ncs.gov.
