Toon Takes to Two Wheels
CABS have fallen out of favour as commuters take to two wheels instead of four.
A survey by internet site touchlocal.com found online searches for local bike shops in Newcastle are up by 90% since the start of the year.
Over the same period searches for local taxi services have fallen by 27%.
Experts say the figures show Geordies are keen to avoid petrol price hikes and combat the effects of the credit crunch, while helping the environment.
Phil Geraghty, product director at touchlocal.com, said: “The figures speak for themselves-the soaring price of petrol is either driving motorists off the road or forcing them to find alternatives.”
