PLP Product Upgrades Deliver Enhanced Color, Job Preflight, Digital Work Orders and Facilities Management Based on a Scalable Web Architecture

Posted on: Wednesday, 14 May 2008, 12:00 CDT

PLP Digital Systems, Inc., a leading provider of production workflow management applications and decision support tools, today announced major upgrades to its PlotWorks and OpCenter product lines. The newest features, built on a scalable Web platform, will give PLP customers significant enhancements including technical color renderings, highly intuitive pre-flight viewing, streamlined digital work order capabilities and on-site services (or facilities management) applications.

PLP Products Become More Colorful

Both PlotWorks and OpCenter will take advantage of a powerful color rendering engine that supports market leading technical document devices including Canon, Hewlett-Packard, and Océ. The internal rendering engine of the products has been overhauled to support Computer Aided Design (CAD) color renderings with full support for ICC color profiling to produce the high quality Architectural, Engineering and Construction (AEC) content. This new capability underscores PLP's commitment to vendor independent solutions by providing a single integrated workflow for both black and white and color printing from all market leading vendors.

JobExplorer™ Enhances Preflight

A new preflight viewer called the JobExplorer is available in PlotWorks 6.0 and OpCenter 2.1. The JobExplorer provides unprecedented productivity for document preflight, a growing requirement for digital services, enabling full scale job preparation in one easy to use application. The JobExplorer is architected with leading edge online/offline technology through Adobe® Flex™ to support desktop applications and future Webtop applications. Key features and benefits include:

What You See Is What You Print (WYSIWYP) functionality

Combined job editing and image review in one application

At-a-glance thumbnail view of complete job

Drag and drop functionality for easy image movement

Full rotation and cropping capabilities

Comprehensive alignment features

DigitalGateway™ Technology Provides a Common Interface for Incoming Digital Work Orders

OpCenter Track has been enhanced with DigitalGateway™ technology to provide an extensible digital work order interface to streamline digital job submission from digital job creation applications such as remote clients or plan rooms. Plug-Ins to the DigitalGateway include:

eOrder - a Web based ordering and job submission interface

ePickup - a Web based job pickup scheduling interface

Repro Desk Remote Plug-in -- orders submitted via Repro Desk Remote client are automatically registered with OpCenter for job tracking with customer and delivery information

DFS Plug-in -- orders placed via Adenium Systems, Inc. DFS (Document Fulfillment System) are automatically registered with OpCenter for job tracking with customer and delivery information

Any orders placed with a DigitalGateway interface to one of these applications is automatically and instantly registered into OpCenter Track for fulfillment and easy tracking, eliminating manual order entry and increasing visibility into tight deadlines.

Extending Workflow to On-site Services

PLP extends workflow to on-site services, commonly referred to as facilities management. Reprographers who use PlotWorks or OpCenter internally can provide the same workflow platform to customers using their on-site services. Capabilities of this offering include:

Job preflight

Queue management

Overflow workflow

Integration with cost accounting applications

Support for mid-volume reprographic devices

Single integrated monochrome and color workflow

The product is priced competitively for on-site services contracts and supports mid-volume and low-volume industry leading reprographics devices from Canon, Hewlett-Packard, Océ, KIP and Xerox.

"The future for reprographics is color, Web based services and on-site services. PLP has been working hard on ground breaking technology to bring the future to our customers," said John Cronin, CEO of PLP Digital Systems, Inc. "We are proud to be providing our customers with solutions that will work on all market leading reprographic devices."

"We are committed to PLP's solutions because they solve today's problems while laying a foundation for our future business model," said KIP Young, Vice President of Kal-Blue. "We are really excited to be moving towards a Webtop workflow architecture and bringing together our monochrome and color workflows."

The product upgrades will be available in June, 2008.
