This Week’s Site: Another Online Source for Finding Cheapest Gas
As the price at the pump continues upwards, we’re all checking those gas station prices these days as we drive past, aren’t we? Now Microsoft’s MSN Auto site has offered us a new tool that will let us check our computer before heading out to find the best prices.
Head over to http://autos.msn.com and look at the bottom right under Driving Tools. Click the Gas Prices link, enter your ZIP code and it will tell you where the best prices are, using data updated daily.
I ran my Oakland County, Mich., ZIP through the interface on May 6 and found 30 stations listed, with prices ranging from $3.52 to $3.69. Those were all prices for May 5.
How does the service that MSN Autos use know them? By credit card transactions, that’s how. It gets direct feeds from participating retail chains and 90,000 stations across the United States.
The new MSN Auto feature joins a bunch of similar sites on the Web, the biggest being GasBuddy.com, which runs a giant network of more than 180 gas price sites.
