Aruba Networks Delivers High Performance Wireless LAN to Ryerson University

Aruba Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: ARUN), a global leader in wireless LANs and secure unified mobility solutions, today announced that Ryerson University has deployed a facility-wide wireless LAN at its 21 acre Toronto, Ontario campus, including a very high performance network in its business school. Ryerson University was founded in 1948 and has more than 24,000 students and 700 full-time faculty members. Following a technical evaluation Aruba was selected to provide the university's wireless network based on its operational performance, security, and scalability.
"We have a densely packed urban campus in the middle of Toronto, and while Wi-Fi offers the greatest flexibility with regard to our daily network needs, ours is a challenging RF environment," said Ken Woo, Ryerson University's assistant director for Communications Support. "Network performance is especially critical for the 3,000 students associated with Ted Rogers School of Business Management. Substantial deployment savings were achieved by minimizing wired ports in favor of using the wireless LAN as the primary access method. More than 1,000 students are simultaneously online at any given time, and rely on the wireless network for classes, printing, and real-time tests. Access points are spaced roughly every 20 feet throughout the three floor building. The Aruba network automatically handles the high density of clients, students, and access points -- it just works."
Aruba's Adaptive Radio Management (ARM) technology automates wireless LAN set-up and maintenance, and adapts the network in real-time to accommodate user behavior, interference, and nearby networks. By tracking the types of applications in use, the network can continuously adapt itself to the operating environment. The resulting follow-me connectivity ensures a positive user experience, even in challenging environments with many simultaneous users.
"Wireless networks operate in highly dynamic environments and can only function well if they automatically tune themselves to accommodate real-time demands," said Fran Sanda, Aruba's manager for Canadian sales. "One of the reasons that so many schools and universities across Canada and in other countries select Aruba for their wireless LANs is because our ARM technology delivers the best possible performance under every operating condition. Ryerson University's operating environment is challenging but by no means unique, and their successful wireless deployment highlights the merits of using ARM technology."
About Aruba Networks
People move. Networks must follow. Aruba securely delivers networks to users, wherever they work or roam. Our unified mobility solutions include Wi-Fi networks, identity-based security, remote access and cellular services, and centralized multi-vendor network management to enable the Follow-Me Enterprise that moves in lock-step with users:
-- Follow-Me Connectivity: Adaptive 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi networks optimize themselves to ensure that users are always within reach of mission-critical information; -- Follow-Me Security: Identity-based security assigns access policies to users, enforcing those policies whenever and wherever a network is accessed; -- Follow-Me Applications: Remote access solutions and cellular network integration ensure uninterrupted access to applications as users move; -- Follow-Me Management: Multi-vendor network management provides a single point of control while managing both legacy and new wireless networks from both Aruba and its competitors.
