NetLogic Microsystems Shipping Production Volume of NL5000GLQ Knowledge-Based Processor to Tier One Customers

Posted on: Monday, 28 March 2005, 09:00 CST

NetLogic Microsystems, Inc. (Nasdaq:NETL), a leader in the design and development of knowledge-based processors, today announced production volume shipments of the Dual QDR-II port NL5000GLQ processors to top tier customers for high-performance networking applications for markets including core, edge, metro, access and enterprise switching and routing.

With its ability to operate up to 250 MHz, the high-performance NL5000GLQ can seamlessly interface with two network processors or ASICs connected via industry-standard Network Processing Forum (NPF) LA-1 specification. Additionally, the NL5000GLQ is depth cascadable without processing latency penalty and offers protection against parity errors with an I/O and database parity feature.

With its high level of integration, the NL5000GLQ eliminates the glue-logic required for interfacing with multiple network processors (NPUs) or ASICs, general-purpose host CPU and associated data SRAM, and occupies a minimal 31mm by 31mm by 1mm of board space, significantly reducing costs and power consumption. The device has the ability to handle dual-search operations per clock cycle, which saves QDR bandwidth and increases overall throughput, and eliminates the need to replicate commonality between databases.

"The NL5000GLQ processor family has achieved continued success with multiple tier one design wins," said James McDermott, director of marketing at NetLogic Microsystems. "Our state-of-the-art knowledge-based processor solutions continue to deliver unparalleled performance and feature-rich integration for our top tier customers. By combining field-proven features with flexibility, scalability, and reference design and software support, we are meeting our customers' demands for more functionality at lower costs."

A comprehensive software and hardware development environment is also available for this device. NetLogic Microsystems' software development kit (SDK) includes control plane software drivers, an API, data plane macros for the NPU, sample code, bring-up utilities, and a fully integrated Foreign Object Model for simulation with Intel's simulation environment. The hardware development kit (HDK) includes an evaluation card and reference schematics. The evaluation card is designed to plug directly into the Intel Angel Island and Aleutian Island development platforms. In addition to the HDK, an emulation development board is also available for IKOS and Quickturn environments.
