RR Student Gets 1st at Fair

Rio Rancho High School student Rachel Lopez, 16, is coming home from the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair a winner.

The fair was held in Atlanta this week. She won first place and $1,000 for her project titled “Ghost Nets: Biodegradable or Not? Testing of Agavaceae Fibers, Part II.” The award was given by the American Indian Science and Engineering Society.

She was not the only Rio Rancho High School student who won a spot at the fair. Megan Johnson, Ford and Vaughn Carty and Nicolette Quesada also attended.
