NETGEAR First to Market With Layer 3 Managed Stackable Fast Ethernet Switches With Four Gigabit Ethernet Interfaces Delivering Market-Leading Value, Functionality and Versatility

Posted on: Tuesday, 29 March 2005, 09:00 CST

SANTA CLARA, Calif., March 29 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- NETGEAR(R), Inc., a worldwide provider of technologically advanced, branded networking products, today announced the launch of the industry's first 24- and 48-port stackable Layer 3 switches plus four Gigabit Ethernet combination interfaces providing the most flexibility of any product in its class. The ProSafe(TM) 24- and 48-Port 10/100 Layer 3 Managed Stackable Switches with Four Gigabit Ports (FSM7328S and FSM7352S) are designed to affordably deliver enterprise-class performance and functionality to support high-density workgroups or the backbones of demanding small networks of mid-market companies.

The easy-to-use stackable ProSafe FSM7328S and FSM7352S managed switches feature 24 and 48 auto-sensing 10/100 ports, respectively, plus four 10/100/1000 ports enabling fiber connectivity through four combination hot-swappable Small Form-factor Pluggable (SFP) gigabit interfaces. New front panel stacking capabilities allow users to build a single-IP manageable device with up to eight switches utilizing standard copper or fiber Gigabit Ethernet interfaces.

Incorporating Layer 3+ intelligence to keep information delivery fast and free from error, the ProSafe FSM7328S and FSM7352S switches enhance network performance and security with the integration of features that include traffic management, RADIUS authentication and advanced Quality of Service.

"The incorporation of the four Gigabit Ethernet interfaces into these managed switches adds an unprecedented level of flexibility for stacking additional switches, directly connecting file servers, or aggregating critical data to the core of the network," explained Demetrios Coulis, Product Line Manager. "The addition of the FSM7328S and FSM7352S switches to our comprehensive line of ProSafe managed switches is highly anticipated by many of our reseller partners and end users who require cost-effective stackable solutions to support not only growth in the number of physical nodes within the organization, but to also support bandwidth-intensive applications that are becoming more complex and taxing the existing network infrastructure."

Delivering a lower per-port cost than comparable Fast Ethernet switches, the rack-mountable 1U ProSafe FSM7328S and FSM7352S utilize a non-blocking design to simultaneously deliver full wire-speed throughput with full Quality of Service (QoS) control to all 10/100 ports, while built-in dynamic Layer 3 switching provides routing and network segmentation between VLANs at no additional cost. Four 1000Base-T interfaces with optional SFP connectors for fiber connections provide an unparalleled level of flexibility.

Easy-to-use and manage, the FSM7328S and FSM7352S support a variety of user interfaces including Command Line Interface (CLI), web-based management via embedded HTTP server and Telnet remote login. The switches support dynamic RIPv1/v2 standards-based routing protocols to ensure ease-of-setup and eliminate the need to maintain static routing tables to lower the cost of ongoing maintenance.

Robust security features include IEEE 802.1x port-based authentication and access control lists, ensuring that only authorized users can access your network. Secure Sockets Layer (SSLv3) for the Web interface and Secured Shell (SSH) for command-line sessions. Additionally, multiple switches can be securely managed via SNMPv3 with NETGEAR's ProSafe Network Management Software (NMS100).

In addition to optional NETGEAR Premium Layer 3 support packages, the ProSafe 24- and 48-Port 10/100 Layer 3 Managed Stackable Switches (FSM7328S and FSM7352S) are backed by 24/7 technical support and NETGEAR's limited lifetime warranty with free basic installation support for 90 days from the date of purchase. The FSM7328S and FSM7352S will be available March 30th via leading direct marketers, e-commerce sites, and value-added resellers at list prices of $655 and $1115, respectively.
