Intel's investment arm Intel Capital has invested MYR 50m ($15.3m) in Green Packet, the parent company of Malaysian WiMAX operator Packet One Networks.
Green Packet was one of the winners of four WiMAX licenses awarded by the Malaysian government last year, and Packet One's network will begin commercial operation in June using the 2.3GHz spectrum.
Earlier this month, Intel Capital, Google, Comcast, Time Warner Cable, and Bright House Networks agreed to invest $3.2bn in a new joint venture to speed up deployment of next-generation mobile WiMAX networks. In addition, Intel plans to add WiMAX support to its Centrino chip package with the release of Centrino 2 later this year.
