CLEVELAND, May 21 /PRNewswire/ -- At Cuyahoga Community College's recent commencement ceremonies, the College awarded associate degrees to seven (7) High Tech Academy students, including Glenville High School valedictorian Alexis Crosby. Alexis will receive her high school diploma from Glenville on June 4th. Next fall she'll attend Case Western Reserve University on scholarship.
High Tech Academy (HTA) is an innovative educational program involving Tri-C, the Cleveland Metropolitan School District, Warrensville Heights city schools and National City Corporation, which supplies significant funding to the program. HTA students attend their home high school in the morning, then take college-level classes at Tri-C in the afternoon. The mission of HTA is to prepare students for technological careers and higher education.
"National City is proud to be involved with High Tech Academy, and we congratulate the graduates of 2008," said Paul Clark, president of National City Northern Ohio Banking. Clark and Cuyahoga Community College President Dr. Jerry Sue Thornton met this week with Alexis Crosby to wish her well. "High Tech Academy provides local students with valuable high-tech skills they can leverage to begin successful careers. And at the same time, the businesses and residents of Northeast Ohio benefit from the supply of highly educated and trained professionals who are engaged in this community," Clark added.
"Through the generosity of National City, High Tech Academy has become a national model for linking secondary and higher education with a leading business to address the region's need for skilled workers in business and industry," said Tri-C's Dr. Thornton. "Alexis and our other HTA graduates are well on their way to successful, rewarding, highly productive careers," she said.
Alexis Crosby is recognized in Ebony Magazine's June 2008 issue, the Plain Dealer's Senior Standout 2008 edition, in Who's Who Among American High School Students and by the National Dean's List. She is a member of the Phi Theta Kappa honor society, the National Honors Society and the National Society of High School Scholars. She is an active volunteer with Hospice of the Western Reserve and the City Club of Cleveland Youth Council.
