Amazon’s E-Book Reader to Cost $40 Less

May 29, 2008

Online retailer Amazon.com has reduced the price of its Kindle e-book reader by almost $40, The Associated Press has reported.

The e-book reader, priced at $399 and launched in November 2007, is claimed to have sold out in hours after the launch and Amazon is believed to have resolved the problems related to its supply chain and manufacturing, bringing the device back to sale in April 2008.

According to Drew Herdener, Amazon’s spokesperson, the company’s cost of manufacturing the e-book reader decreased when it increased the production number. However, despite the price cut, the Kindle e-book reader costs more than Sony’s competing Reader, which is priced at $359.
