NCTA NATIONAL SHOW, SAN FRANCISCO, April 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Mahi Networks, a supplier of advanced optical transport and switching platforms that deliver next-generation Ethernet/IP-based services such as Video on Demand, VoIP, and High-Speed Data, has expanded its line of optical Ethernet transponders for its Vx7 Multi-Service Core Transport System. Mahi will demonstrate its Vx7 ROADM (reconfigurable optical add / drop multiplexer) and VersiNET Network Planning Tool in the CableNET(R) demonstration area (Booth 6490) at the NCTA National Show in San Francisco, CA, April 3-5.
Emerging digital services and the transition to IP-based services are taxing MSOs' transport infrastructure, fueling the demand for ROADM-based DWDM systems to reduce CapEx and OpEx while improving network scalability. Mahi's ROADM-based Vx7 with its VersiColor(TM) wavelength selectable switch saves time and dollars with an automated optical layer that provides simple, one-time network engineering, enabling MSOs to rapidly add new services to any node without restriction and without service disruptions.
To support the increasing demand for IP, DTV, and VOD services, Mahi Networks is introducing its 10-port Multi-Service Transponder with SFP client interfaces supporting any combination of GbE, Fiber Channel, ESCON, FICON, and digital video services. The GFP implementation supports full-rate and rate-limited services multiplexed onto a single 10G wavelength, while the Vx7's automated optical layer and advanced ADM-on-a-Wavelength(TM) technology provide individual service add/drop at any node and wavelength reuse around the ring. In addition, Mahi is unveiling its 10G Multi-Service Transponder with XFP client interfaces supporting 10GbE LAN PHY, 10GbE WAN PHY, OC-192, STM-64, and G.709 services.
"MSOs are rapidly converging their digital service delivery onto Layer 2 optical Ethernet transport networks. Ethernet simplifies the delivery of digital video and advanced voice and data services, and it makes the transition to the fully IP-based services network transparent. The Vx7 is a key engine in powering this transition," commented Ron Longo, Mahi Networks vice president Worldwide Marketing. "Vx7 Release 3.1 is a direct result of close collaboration with our customers and advances Mahi's current technology leadership position in the ROADM market. Our customers are delighted with the Vx7 in every instance and these new features of the Vx7 are part of Mahi's commitment to maintain that close working relationship."
The Vx7 provides single wavelength switching granularity for up to 32 wavelengths with 100% unrestricted optical add/drop capability for 2.5, 10, and 40 Gbps line-rates, with full wavelength-reuse around a sixteen-node network that spans up to a 1000 km circumference. Other Vx7 transponders previously released include a 2.5G multiplexing GbE transponder with two full-rate GbE interfaces, a 2.5G Any Rate(TM) transponder supporting any client service rate up to 2.7 Gbps, and a 10G ADM-on-a-Wavelength transponder providing 10 ports of independently provisionable OC-3/12/48 SONET interfaces with integrated client side 1+1 APS and line side UPSR protection. Mahi provides additional transponders, as well.
