NewWave Communications to Deploy Single and Multi-Room Motorola Broadband Media Centers With Moxi(TM)

Posted on: Monday, 4 April 2005, 09:00 CDT

SIKESTON, Mo., April 4 /PRNewswire/ -- NewWave Communications, a leading independent cable operator in the Southern United States, today announced plans to deploy the Motorola Broadband Media Center (BMC) with Moxi(TM) in Dexter, Mo. this spring.

"Like all cable operators, we're always looking for products and services that will distinguish us from our competition," said Jim Gleason, president and COO of NewWave Communications, and chairman of the American Cable Association (ACA). "Moxi's robust feature set and aggressive product roadmap confirm that this product will not only help us beat competitive satellite advances, but also give our analog subscribers a great reason to upgrade."

The single-room Motorola BMC9012 and multi-room BMC9022 media centers integrate high-definition television (HDTV) with a dual-tuner digital video recorder (DVR) to enable maximum flexibility and management of digital TV programming. Utilizing the powerful processor, internal hard drive, and built-in cable modem of the Motorola BMC, the Moxi service offers a competitive choice for delivering digital home entertainment. The Emmy(R) award-winning Moxi Menu TV interface, which will feature "NewWave DVR with Moxi" branding, makes it easier than ever for viewers to find out what's on. "Moxi is a customer magnet," said Tom Gleason, EVP of NewWave Communications and chairman of the National Cable Television Cooperative (NCTC). "It draws in customers with its friendly, easy-to-use UI, encouraging full exploration of NewWave's DVR functionality."

The Motorola BMC with Moxi offers NewWave Communications subscribers a compelling entertainment experience, including the ability to:

-- Pause and instantly replay live TV;

-- Record single programs or series by title;

-- View two weeks of program guide data to plan viewings and set

recordings;

-- Easily browse the rapid and responsive Moxi Menu;

-- Access Moxi's smart search capabilities using title or keywords;

-- Record first-run episodes only and avoid repeats;

-- Quickly access their most-watched channels with the Favorite Channels

Menu;

-- Easily browse multiple categories for movies, sports, kids, news and

music;

-- Receive instant on-demand updates on weather, sports and news with the

Moxi Ticker, regardless of what channel the consumer is watching;

-- Enjoy fun, family-friendly Moxi Games that can be played using the

remote control.
