Embedded Alley Adds Embedded Linux Support for Tensilica's Processor Cores
Posted on: Monday, 2 June 2008, 09:19 CDT
Embedded Alley Solutions (EA Solutions) today announced Tensilica(R) will utilize its unique Silicon Vendor Partner Program to provide embedded Linux support for the Diamond Standard and Xtensa configurable processor cores. As part of the strategic relationship between the two companies, Embedded Alley has designed a Platform Optimized Linux Solution (POLS) specifically designed to showcase the differentiating hardware features of Tensilica's products.
The POLS consists of a customized embedded Linux development and runtime environment that can help Tensilica's customers accelerate their product development with software already tuned for Tensilica's cores. Included in the standard distribution of the POLS product from EA Solutions are a variety of open-source middleware and applications ready to run on Tensilica processors. Tensilica hardware platforms have been added to the EA Solutions automated test lab for regular regression testing, ensuring that as the open-source Linux kernel evolves, it stays compatible with the Tensilica architecture. EA Solutions will also conduct maintenance of the Xtensa-architecture optimized components, kernel and tools in the community source trees.
"Our customers requested that we work with EA Solutions because of their great reputation in providing superior Linux design services, customized training and support," stated Steve Roddy, Tensilica's vice president of marketing and business development. "EA Solutions provides a vital link between Tensilica's customers and the Linux open-source community."
"As more deeply embedded devices are utilizing the Linux operating system, semiconductor companies are embracing Tensilica's low-power, high-performance processor cores," stated Pete Popov, President and CEO of EA Solutions. "Particularly compelling is Tensilica's unique ability to combine leading edge DSP features, such as the market leading HiFi2 Audio engine DSP, with a Linux-compatible MMU in one core configuration. By working together we can help Tensilica's customers get highly-optimized, Linux-ready new products to market much faster."
