Fujitsu Optical Networking Solutions Now Available to Government Agencies Through GSA Schedule 70

Posted on: Tuesday, 5 April 2005, 09:00 CDT

Popular FLASHWAVE(R) Multiservice SONET, DWDM and ROADM Platforms plus NETSMART(R) Management Products Added to Schedule

Fujitsu Network Communications Inc., a leading North American supplier of telecommunications and networking solutions, today announced the listing of their widely-deployed FLASHWAVE(R) optical networking solutions and NETSMART(R) management platforms on the General Services Administration (GSA) Federal Supply Schedule. The addition of these platforms to the GSA Schedule will give federal and state agencies access to the same carrier-proven equipment that Regional Bell Operating Companies (RBOCs), Multiple System Operators (MSOs) and independent wireline and wireless carriers depend on for their mission-critical optical networking and end-to-end service delivery requirements.

Many federal agencies already use FLASHWAVE optical networking solutions and through this new agreement with EC America, federal agencies will now have access to the FLASHWAVE and NETSMART products through GSA Schedule 70, allowing an easier purchase.

Fujitsu will be presenting applications of their FLASHWAVE products and NETSMART management solutions in Booth #1925 of the Federal Office Systems Exposition (FOSE) 2005 tradeshow, a comprehensive technology event that serves the needs of the federal government. The exhibition at FOSE 2005 begins today and runs through April 7, 2005, at the Washington Convention Center. Daily show hours are 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. For more details, please see http://www.fose.com.

Fujitsu has deployed over 300,000 network elements in North America and was recently named the market share leader by independent telecom research and advisory service firm RHK in both SONET platforms and Re-configurable Optical Add/Drop Multiplexers (ROADMs), the two most critical components of today's optical network. All of the products that contribute to this leadership position are available to federal and state agencies through GSA Schedule 70.

The FLASHWAVE 4000 Multiservice Provisioning Platforms (MSPPs) and Multiservice Switching Platforms (MSSPs) target a converging optical networking market with transport of traditional TDM private line, Ethernet, ATM, broadband video and any combination of these services over SONET. For higher capacity requirements, the FLASHWAVE 7500 ROADM, which includes the industry's most advanced Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) technologies, allows federal and state agencies to converge Metropolitan Area Networks (MANs) and accommodate rapidly changing service and traffic patterns.

The NETSMART family of management solutions includes a scalable Element Management System (EMS) that allows government agencies to quickly and easily turn-up voice, video, data and storage services, as well as manage a network of up to 8,000 network elements, from a single location.

Fujitsu is also making comprehensive network support services available to government agencies to help them design, test and troubleshoot network equipment. Agencies can choose a wide variety of response options, including 24x7 phone support and onsite services, to meet their individual needs.

"As the North American market leader in SONET ADMs with 28% share and ROADMs with 83% share, Fujitsu is the supplier that more carriers turn to for their mission-critical networking requirements," said Bill Erickson, senior vice president of sales and marketing at Fujitsu Network Communications. "Our alliance with EC America and placement on the GSA Schedule 70 will give federal and state agencies access to our robust product and service solutions, and we look forward to helping them create the same type of highly-secure networks that have been our specialty in North America for over 20 years."

EC America is a leading sales and distribution channel of Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) goods and services to the U.S. Federal market. EC America is currently affiliated with Selbre Associates, Inc., one of the leading contract management and consulting firms in the nation with respect to GSA Multiple Award Schedule (MAS) contracts.

Fujitsu FLASHWAVE products and NETSMART management solutions are available through GSA contract number GS-35F-0414K in the 70IT (Information Technology) schedule type.
