New England Patriots recognize Holbrook man
The New England Patriots donated $1,500 to the Association of Blind Citizens in Holbrook on Tuesday in recognition of Holbrook resident Robert Weissman, who has volunteered as head coach of the organization’s baseball team, the Boston Renegades, since 2002.
Weissman was recognized along with 20 other volunteers at the Patriots’ annual Community MVP Awards luncheon at Gillette Stadium. All told, the football franchise donated $50,000 to nonprofits affiliated with the volunteers.
Gentle Dental gives $20k to Dana-Farber
Gentle Dental, the Waltham dental service with offices in South Boston, Braintree, Quincy, Stoughton and other locations statewide, has donated $20,000 to this year’s “Surprise Party” being held today at the Wang Theatre in Boston to benefit the Friends of Dana- Farber, which funds cancer research.
Bank of Canton sponsored anti-drug program
Bank of Canton hosted 100 students from Canton, Randolph, Weymouth and Quincy middle schools at the bank’s corporate headquarters last month for an anti-drug program. The Youth Leading Everywhere Abstaining for Drugs program, offered by the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association Inc., educates students in hopes they will lead drug-free lives.
Granite raises money for cancer research
Granite Telecommunications will celebrate its sixth year in business on June 7 by hosting a family fun day in its parking lot at 100 Newport Ave. Ext. in Quincy, partly to raise money for the Dana- Farber Cancer Institute. The event, which will feature food, entertainment and carnival rides, is open to the public.
