Posted on: Thursday, 5 June 2008, 09:00 CDT

Zhone Technologies, a provider of multi-service access equipment for VoIP, IPTV and ethernet over copper and fiber access lines, has named Bruce Roe as its new senior vice president of engineering.

Immediately preceding his appointment at Zhone, Mr Roe held the position of vice president of R&D for Wave 7 Optics, a company he joined when it was still an early stage startup. There, he led R&D of the company's fiber to the premises and standard-based GPON products.

Prior to his tenure at Wave 7 Optics, Mr Roe held numerous executive leadership roles with Nortel Networks, including vice president and general manager of Nortel's Open IP portfolio where he forged strategic alliances with Motorola, IBM and Intel among others. He also served as Nortel's vice president of technology and advanced software networking, and the company's vice president of engineering. He joined Nortel as a manager and held senior manager and director roles prior to moving into the executive ranks.

Mory Ejabat, chairman and CEO of Zhone, said: "We balance the best practices of an established company with a high degree of customer responsiveness and the kind of original thinking found in the best start-ups. Bruce's combined Fortune 500 and startup successes provide the ideal mindset to lead Zhone's engineering team at this stage of the company's growth."
