ASHGABAT. June 10 (Interfax) – OAO MTS (RTS: MTSS), the largest cellular communications provider in Turkmenistan, has begun providing wireless Internet services in Turkmenistan.

All clients of MTS Turkmenistan who have joined the new tariff plan “Internet” can now enjoy high-speed Internet access thanks to the board EDGE network.

In March 2008, MTS Turkmenistan became the first mobile communications operator to provide Internet access services on the basis of GPRS technologies. However, until now this service has been available only to corporate clients (over 750 corporate clients of MTS, mainly private companies and state institutions, used the service).

People can get the new tariff plant “Internet” in three offices in Turkmenistan: in Ashgabat, Balkanabat (former Nebitdag) and Turkmenbashi (former Krasnovodsk).

OAO MTS began operating in Turkmenistan in late June 2005 after buying 51% in the U.S. company Barash Communications Technologies, Inc. (BCTI).
