High-Speed Ethernet and Fibre Channel Storage Networking Switch Sales Up in Otherwise Down First Quarter, According to Dell'Oro Group

Posted on: Wednesday, 11 June 2008, 09:00 CDT

According to a recently published report by Dell'Oro Group, the trusted source for market information about the networking and telecommunications industries, overall Fibre Channel Storage Networking and Ethernet Switch Market sales declined during the first quarter of 2008. Virtually all segments were down from the fourth quarter of 2007 except the very high end.

"During the first quarter of this year, we saw a similar trend in both the storage and local area networking markets where spending was up robustly on high-function and high-speed switches targeted at the data center," said Tam Dell'Oro, President and Founder of Dell'Oro Group. "Users paid premium prices for extra performance during a time when users take caution with expense management. For storage networking, Brocade's sales of its new 8 Gbps backbone switch (model DCX) was the bright spot for revenue growth. For local networking, both Cisco and Force10's sales were lifted by 10 Gbps Ethernet connections on modular switches (models Catalyst 6500, and E-Series, respectively)," added Dell'Oro.
