Tecore Networks Launches Universal Mobile Network Core for Systems Integrators and OEMs

Posted on: Wednesday, 11 June 2008, 15:00 CDT

Tecore Networks, a leading provider of GSM, CDMA, 3G and multi-protocol mobile networks, today announced the world's first complete, multi-technology mobile network core on a single CPU blade. Leveraging Tecore's patented software-defined architecture, the Universal Network Mobile Core delivers one or multiple core network subsystems for GSM, CDMA, GPRS/EDGE, UMTS, EV-DO, Wi-Fi and WiMAX, enabling systems integrators and original equipment manufacturers to implement support for the most widely deployed mobile technologies in a broad range of products and applications.

The world's 3.5 billion mobile subscribers are served by a diversity of circuit- and packet-based technologies. As carriers and enterprises strive to integrate mobile access into their network environments, they have few options that will support all major access technologies in a cost-effective and streamlined manner. Tecore Networks' Universal Mobile Network Core leverages the company's track record of deploying multi-protocol networks around the globe, as well as its patented software-defined architecture guided by 3GPP/3GPP2 and IMS standards, to deliver a comprehensive, converged mobile platform.

Details of the Universal Mobile Network Core include:

-- Support for GSM, CDMA, GPRS/EDGE, UMTS, EV-DO, Wi-Fi and WiMAX from common object code

-- All core network components: UMSC; MSC/VLR; CSCF; HLR/HSS; GLR; AuC/AC; SMSC/MMSC; SGSN/GGSN; IN/SIP Application Server

-- Supports up to 1 million BHCA and 1,000 SS7 transactions per second

-- 64-bit Linux-based processing, running on an Intel off-the-shelf blade, supporting a wide range of hardware options including: ATCA; microTCA; Compact-PCI; or simply a laptop

-- Can be adapted to run on alternative Intel-based operating systems such as Windows, or on a PowerPC platform such as Solaris

-- A wide selection of vocoders on software-based DSPs

-- Security features including the major standards-based algorithms

"Converged networking has mostly been discussed as bringing together IP-based communications, but we need to remember that the majority of the world's mobile users - now, and for the next five years - will traverse legacy, circuit-based networks. Tecore's Universal Mobile Network Core provides true convergence by including TDM- and IP-based protocols in its scope," said Casey Joseph, Chief Technology Officer, Tecore Networks. "As a complete network subsystem supporting a range of protocols and off-the-shelf hardware platforms, this offering is ideal for converged communications systems integrators and OEMs."
