RASILIENT Systems and Inventec Group to Co-Develop Low Cost, High Performance Storage Systems for OEMs

Posted on: Tuesday, 12 April 2005, 18:00 CDT

PHOENIX, (Storage Networking World), April 12 /PRNewswire/ -- RASILIENT Systems, an innovator in standards-based software and modular RAID storage platforms and Inventec Group, the top server manufacturer in the world, have entered into a co-development agreement to jointly build low cost, high performance storage systems for the OEM market.

The entry-level storage market is the largest market opportunity for storage hardware and software vendors today with full feature functionality, high availability and low cost being three major benchmarks. In this new market paradigm, users will expect feature rich functionality, networkability and high availability, once the lofty domain of the enterprise sector.

Both companies are well matched to address this challenge. Inventec Group, a $6 billion dollar company based in Taiwan and a global leader in server technologies brings the ability to manufacture high volume, high quality storage server hardware at the lowest possible cost. This highly respected ODM, with its successful track record of supporting the world's largest OEM's, is perfectly poised to address this fast growing, high-volume SAN & NAS storage market. RASILIENT Systems brings new innovative storage system software that allows specially designed servers to emulate the performance and capability of a mid-range Fibre Channel system.

"We are pleased to enter into a co-development agreement with RASILIENT as their unique approach to using LINUX software to emulate full RAID and volume management functionality, iSCSI protocol and active-active failover capabilities has significant advantages over traditional approaches using dedicated hardware," said NJ Lee, president of Inventec Enterprise System Corp. "Their strong technology and innovation combined with our global manufacturing and support resources will result in a new low-cost, standards-based storage platform that offers world-class functionality, flexibility and performance. This combination of performance and cost, typically seen in mid-range Fibre Channel systems, now gives OEM's a wider range of options to provide to their valued customers."

"High performance server technology now has the performance and reliability of traditional storage hardware," said Sean Chang, president and CEO of RASILIENT Systems. "Our Linux-based system software is the missing component that enables a unique combination of low cost, high performance and server technology to be applied to the high performance storage market. Our partnership with Inventec Group will bring a new cost and functionality paradigm to the fastest growing market segment of the storage market and will provide system vendors with a new source for profitable high volume storage systems."
