Advanced Micro Devices has upgaded its Radeon series graphics processors for Mac and PC platforms.
It said the ATI Radeon HD 3870 Mac & PC Edition is optimized for Apple Mac Pro systems and features built-in 256-bit 512MB GDDR4 frame buffer memory and 320 stream processors, twin dual-link DVI ports and Unified Shader Architecture, PCI Express 2.0, and its patented ATI PowerPlay technology for control over the graphics processor in multiple power states.
The launch follows the release earlier this month of the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3800 mobile graphics processor for notebooks.
Matt Skynner, vice president of marketing of graphics products at AMD, said: "The ATI Radeon HD 3870 Mac & PC Edition will enhance the Mac experience to maximum levels of 3D gaming and HD performance."
The ATI Radeon HD 3870 Mac & PC Edition is priced at $219.
