Posted on: Monday, 16 June 2008, 09:00 CDT

NEW YORK, June 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Socialmedia.com announced today that co-founder and CEO Seth Goldstein will speak on the monetization panel, "A Debate: Social Media Is Rampantly Monetizable vs. No, It Never Will Be," on Monday, June 23, 2008, at the OMMA Social Conference. As consumers spend more time interacting with social media, marketers have the opportunity to expand their advertising strategies to reach consumers where they live online. This one day conference brings together the dynamic and exclusive group individuals who are shaping the future of the social media landscape, from social media to mobile, email, marketers, media buys, planners and more. At OMMA Social, industry experts will address both how social media can be monetized and what markers can learn from it.

According to eMarketer, advertisers spent an estimated $920 million on social networking sites in the US in 2007, and are projected to spend $1.6 billion in 2008. While marketers have realized the potential for leveraging social media in advertising campaigns, it is essential to understand the delicate balance between effectively communicating to target audiences while maintaining brand continuity and image. But as ad spending in social media increases, the questions are increasing as well.

In this session, online advertising experts will debate the ability to easily monetize social media. While banners and buttons inhabit social media, these standard digital advertising methods are not necessarily guarantees for monetization. While some experts believe that successful online advertising is a matter of finding social media advertising's secret formula, others believe that this most personal of online spaces will always make social media difficult to monetize. Mr. Goldstein will weight the issue alongside Steve Jang of imeem, Brian Wieser of MAGNA Global, Jeremy Helfand of Classmates.com and Ashkan Karbasfrooshan of WatchMojo.com. The panel is moderated by Jim Nail of TNS Media Intelligence/Cymfony and will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the Yale Club in New York City.

Following the session, Socialmedia.com will host a Lunch & Learn seminar. This one hour event will feature updates from Socialmedia.com, personalized education of services, and a custom workshop on Socialmedia.com's newest product launch. Attendees include marketers, media buyers and planners.
