PhatNoise(R) and Texas Instruments Collaborate to Solve Challenges of Today and Beyond for Digital Car Audio Systems

Posted on: Wednesday, 24 September 2003, 06:00 CDT

LOS ANGELES and DALLAS, Sept. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- PhatNoise Inc., a leading innovator in car audio technology, has joined with semiconductor solutions provider Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) to develop advanced audio devices based upon some of TI's most popular automotive audio solutions, extending the functionality of MP3-capable CD units. Automotive audio customers will now receive the benefits of advanced digital signal processors (DSP) from TI combined with innovative hardware, software and automobile connectivity capabilities from PhatNoise. "The collaboration of the two companies shows Texas Instruments as a valued automotive audio provider," said Dannie Lau, PhatNoise Co-Founder and Executive Vice President. "We're creating feature-rich applications for car audio head units that take advantage of the processing power of TI's chips."

The first joint effort for PhatNoise and TI will be the PhatNoise mCD(TM) platform, which PhatNoise is developing for TI's TMS320DA150 DSP to extend the functionality of MP3-capable CD units within the car audio system.

"With the ability to put up to 200 mp3 songs on a single CD, finding a desired song, artist or genre will prove to be a distraction to many drivers. The mCD experience eases the digital music catalog navigation allowing the driver to stay focused on driving," said Brian Fortman, Telematics marketing manager at Texas Instruments. "The TI/PhatNoise collaboration will enable car audio manufacturers to build easier to use, feature-rich head units today and will bring further innovations to next generation products."
