Posted on: Thursday, 14 April 2005, 09:00 CDT
FOCUS, FTTH Council and TIA join forces to examine the latest industry developments and showcase successful deployments in optical fiber communities across the U.S.
Three leading telecommunications industry organizations, Fiber Optic Communities of the United States (FOCUS), the Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) Council and the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), today announced an upcoming press conference examining fiber-to-the-home in the United States. On Tuesday, May 10, 2005, a dynamic set of speakers will convene in Washington, D.C. to discuss the latest research and developments in optical fiber to homes and businesses, including Senator Charles Schumer of New York, Mayor Graham Richard of Ft. Wayne, Ind., and Michael Render, a leading expert on U.S. fiber-to-the-home.
Experts also presenting at the conference include:
-- Link Hoewing, assistant vice president, Verizon which will have passed three million homes with fiber by the end of 2005;
-- Scott Cain, NTS Communications, an independent provider of "triple-play" fiber optic services in Lubbock, Texas and surrounding areas.
"Home and business owners in both rural and urban settings are benefiting from the value, reliability and speeds that optical fiber technology provides," said Max Kipfer, founder and president, FOCUS. "We'll learn from our event speakers how some of these communities are benefiting from FTTH technology, and also hear about the newest cities and towns that have joined the growing list of U.S. optical fiber communities."
Leonard Ray, FTTH Council president, adds, "As we will see from the list of new member communities, the social and economic advantages of optical fiber continue to drive demand for next generation communication infrastructures that enhance quality-of-life for both residential and business subscribers."
According to Matthew J. Flanigan, TIA president, the latest accounts of forward-looking communities investing in advanced communication technologies like FTTH demonstrate that the widespread value and economic impact of broadband will soon be impossible to ignore. "These communities provide a vital glimpse of what's possible today and in the future."
The press conference will begin at 10:00 a.m. EDT at 216 Hart Senate Office Building, Constitution Avenue and 2nd Street NE, Washington, DC. This event is open to the public. To register, please visit www.communitiesinfocus.org/eventregistration2.htm.
