Motorola has completed the roll-out of Iceland's nationwide public safety communications network, on behalf of Neydarlinan 112, in 12 months time.
The IP-based TErrestrial Trunked RAdio network has 150 base stations and 22 dispatchers. The network gives public safety organizations radio communications coverage across Iceland including the peak of Hvannadalshnukur, Iceland's highest mountain.
Thorhallur Olafsson, managing director of Neydarlinan 112, said: "Improved security, reliability and coverage provide a much stronger communications platform for our public safety organizations. It will improve inter- and cross-agency communication and, as it supports data, enable new ways of communicating to improve operations and services."
Per Lundmark, director of sales of government and public safety at Motorola Nordics, said: "Iceland's topology created many technical and operational challenges when it came to designing and installing the extended mission critical network. The customer team has really taken on the challenge to make the vision come true and it's very pleasing to see the entire network up and running as originally envisaged."
