Hanaro Telecom Deploys Harmonic Gateway to Increase Bandwidth
Harmonic, a provider of high performance video solutions, has announced that Hanaro Telecom, a Korean telecom operator, has deployed Harmonic’s Narrowcast Services Gateway 9000 universal edge quadrature amplitude modulations to increase bandwidth offered to cable subscribers.
Hanaro’s wideband data over cable service interface specification (DOCSIS) 2.0B modular cable modem termination system (M-CMTS) service with channel bonding, capable of delivering 150 Mbps or more, is fully operational and has been very well received by Hanaro customers. Harmonic’s NSG universal edge platform is a powerful solution for the cost-effective expansion of high-speed data capacity, while also freeing up critical network resources for cable IPTV and other advanced services.
The NSG 9000′s integrated DOCSIS 3.0 timing interface (DTI), which maximizes channel capacity by enabling clock synchronization in M-CMTS applications, was a critical factor in Hanaro’s decision. The superior RF performance of the NSG platform, which exceeds the DOCSIS RF Interface (DRFI) specification in several critical RF parameters, was also a key differentiator, as was the NSG’s capability to be implemented in a Direct-to-Edge cable IPTV environment.
Harmonic said, its NSG 9000 is in use by cable operators worldwide for video-on-demand, M-CMTS, switched digital video, broadcast, and edge encryption applications. A highly integrated digital video gateway which multiplexes on-demand video and data, the NSG 9000 offers superior RF performance and redundancy options that streamline the provisioning of IP-based services including voice-over-IP and broadband internet access.
