TechSmith Officially Releases Screencast.Com Media-Sharing Service

Posted on: Wednesday, 18 June 2008, 18:00 CDT

TechSmith Corp., the world's leading provider of screen capture and recording solutions, today announced the official debut of Screencast.com, an affordable media-sharing site where professionals can securely upload, organize and share high-quality videos, presentations, documents and images.

All content uploaded to Screencast.com retains its original quality, resolution and file size, including support for high-definition media. During the recently concluded beta period, nearly 200,000 users uploaded and shared more than 750,000 pieces of media for business, academic, marketing, sales, training and entertainment. A video overview of Screencast.com can be viewed here: http://www.screencast.com/t/Pr70JSmFWz

"With the great feedback we received from our customers during the past 18 months, we've been able to tailor Screencast.com for business people who can't afford to lose control of their content," said Dirk Frazier, Product Manager of Screencast.com. "We've kept the site intuitive and easy to use, while still providing that high level of trust in the quality and security of our platform."

Easy to Organize and Share

Content uploaded to Screencast.com can be shared as individual pieces of media or organized into Playlists, making it easy for users to streamline the online viewing experience. Users can make their media available by email, IM or embed it in Web pages and blogs for convenient sharing. Users can also leverage Screencast.com's embedded MediaRoll widget to display on their Web page or blog content contained in any Public Folder. Viewers can subscribe to specific Screencast.com video and audio content, including Apple iPod(R)-compatible video and audio, via RSS and iTunes feeds.

Content Control

Folders containing content can be made private, public or invite-only with Screencast.com's integrated email notification. Owners also have access to content analytics, including who has accepted an invitation and how many times a specific piece of media has been viewed. Screencast.com users retain complete ownership of their content and can add or remove content at any time. Because Screencast.com doesn't resize or reformat the original content, individuals who watch videos hosted on Screencast.com see exactly what was uploaded.

Screencast.com is also integrated with TechSmith's Camtasia Studio and Jing Project, providing users a direct connection for uploading their screencasts and screenshots with a single click. Screencast.com supports a wide variety of video such as Flash, Windows Media, and QuickTime formats, a variety of image formats, and other document types that viewers can download such as Microsoft Word and Excel documents, PowerPoint presentations and Adobe PDF files.

Pricing and Availability

Screencast.com is available immediately at www.screencast.com. Screencast.com is compatible with Internet Explorer 6 and Firefox 1.5 or higher with JavaScript enabled. Desktop applications are available for Windows and Mac users to facilitate efficient transfer of files over 100MB. A broadband Internet connection and Flash Player 9 is highly recommended for an optimal user experience. A free 60-day account is available with 200MB of storage and a monthly allotment of 1GB of transfer bandwidth. Screencast.com subscriptions can be purchased on a monthly or annual basis.
