Bend, Ore.-Based Marketing Group Partners With Google to Sell Ad Technology
By Andrew Moore, The Bulletin, Bend, Ore.
Jun. 17–G5 Search Marketing Inc., a Bend company that specializes in Web-based advertising solutions, will announce today that it has partnered with Google to resell some of the Internet giant’s advertising technology.
Dan Hobin, the founder and CEO of G5, said the deal gives his company new clout and will allow him to add roughly 50 new employees in the next two years if the partnership proves fruitful.
“Google is going to work with select partners throughout the world and we got chosen,” Hobin said. “This should be a good boost for us.” The deal enables G5 to resell Google’s AdWords technology, which is what Google uses to place ads relevant to a search at the top of its search pages. G5 already uses its own technology to rank its clients’ Web sites at the top of Google’s search results (also known as search optimization) as well as place its clients’ information in local business searches on Google’s map page.
In other words, with Google’s help, G5 can now place its clients’ ads in some of the choicest online real estate: the top of the search page.
In an e-mail to The Bulletin, Google spokeswoman Deanna Yick confirmed that G5 has entered into a strategic relationship with Google to become an authorized reseller of its AdWords online advertising program. Yick wrote that G5 joins other companies that have become authorized resellers.
Hobin believes his company is the only one in Oregon to have such a deal with Google and that Google reached out to G5 because it wants to offer its AdWords technology to local markets, which are largely untapped.
“Google works with big ad agencies, which bring advertisers to Google, but now they’ve figured out how to reach midsize businesses, and they have to work with local people,” Hobin said.
In addition to managing its clients’ online ads, G5 also helps its clients track the effectiveness of their ads. The company uses phone numbers and Internet-generated coupons delivered to a user’s cell phone or printer as a physical way to measure ad effectiveness, which can be monitored in real time by the client on G5′s Web site.
Hobin said local and regional businesses that have retail locations are prime customers for his company’s technology.
G5 currently employs 26 people and works from a downtown Bend office on Northwest Harriman Street. The company has already grown this year by several employees, and Hobin said he’s looking for more office space to accommodate his company’s growth.
