CWC Files Patent Suit Against Apple and HP
Texas-based Clear with Computers (CWC) has filed a patent suit against Apple and HP, alleging infringement of its patents relating to a configuration system for custom orders and parts inventory systems.
The Electronic Proposal Preparation System patent and the Computer-Assisted Parts Sales Method patent were issued to CWC in 1997 and 1994, respectively, for computer-based techniques to propose and complete the sale of multiple parts in a single order.
The company alleges that Apple and HP are using its web-based configuration system to enable customers to design customized computers. It is seeking damages as well as a permanent injunction to stop Apple and HP from using its systems.
