Siemens Wins eWEEK Excellence Award for Enterprise Collaboration With HiPath OpenScape Presence-Driven, Permission-Based Collaboration Portal

Posted on: Monday, 18 April 2005, 15:00 CDT

Siemens Communications, Inc., announced today that eWEEK, a Ziff Davis Media publication and one of the industry's leading enterprise information technology (IT) magazines, has named the Siemens HiPath(R) OpenScape(TM) presence-driven and permission-based collaboration portal as a winner in eWEEK's Fifth Annual Excellence Awards program. Siemens received top honors in the award program's Enterprise Collaboration category.

Along with other category winners, Siemens will receive its award at a special ceremony on April 26 at The Westin Copley Place in Boston. A list of all the award winners can be found in the April 11 issue of eWEEK magazine and on www.eweek.com.

HiPath OpenScape middleware improves business velocity by streamlining employee and team communication. The OpenScape software suite helps eliminate unproductive enterprise communication processes and ensures more contacts - on the first try - by providing real-time presence and availability views of users, teams and preferred modes or devices for instant collaboration. Enterprises can further lower collaboration costs and improve productivity by taking advantage of the OpenScape solution's comprehensive Web Services Toolkit. With the toolkit, enterprises can integrate presence views and user permissions directly into workflow applications, expediting interaction-rich business processes.

Siemens, with its HiPath OpenScape solution, continues to receive industry accolades for its portfolio of unified collaboration tools that facilitate quicker decision-making by synchronizing people, devices and information. A leading independent research firm recently identified Siemens as the leader in this market segment. As a real-time, speech-enabled, presence-aware, SIP-based communications software suite, the HiPath OpenScape solution leverages all carrier and enterprise communication systems (IP and TDM Centrex as well as PBX and IP-PBX variants from major vendors), or IT solutions like the Microsoft Live Communications Server (LCS).

In addition to the HiPath OpenScape portal, Siemens and Microsoft Corp. are working together to provide enterprises with a new HiPath OpenScape Telephony Control Link (TCL) solution, a real-time interface linking the Microsoft Office Communicator client and an IP-PBX or PBX telephone. The HiPath OpenScape TCL integrates with the Microsoft Office Live Communications Server 2005 platform to telephone-enable Microsoft's Office Communicator client. This provides employees with click-to-call telephone functionality directly from the desktop.

The eWEEK Excellence Awards program provides enterprise IT professionals with a benchmark for assessing a wide range of technology products and services. Evaluating the entries this year was a panel of experts including eWEEK Labs analysts and eWEEK Corporate Partners, providing a unique mix of technical and real-world analysis.
