Yahoo! Licenses Urban Mapping Neighborhood Data

Urban Mapping, Inc., the leading provider of location-rich content for interactive applications, today announced that Yahoo! has licensed Urbanware: Neighborhoods(TM), Urban Mapping's database product of more than 40,000 neighborhood boundaries covering more than 2,000 U.S. cities and towns. With Urban Mapping's neighborhood boundary data, Yahoo! now delivers geographically-meaningful and targeted results based on actual search behavior.
"The fact that a leading global Internet brand like Yahoo! is using our neighborhood data to add increased functionality to interactive applications is an important validation of our technology and Urban Mapping as a company," said Ian White, Urban Mapping CEO. "Yahoo! clearly sees the value and benefits of delivering neighborhood-based information to their community of users, advertisers, publishers and developers."
Urban Mapping's Urbanware: Neighborhoods is the most comprehensive database of neighborhood boundaries available, enabling increased relevance for users and greater precision for advertisers across a variety of mobile and desktop applications in local search, mapping, real estate, yellow pages and other interactive applications. Urbanware: Neighborhoods accounts for the inherent 'fuzziness' in defining neighborhood boundaries by using a patent-pending data model. By geographically encoding boundaries of thousands of neighborhoods, Urban Mapping provides precise latitude and longitude points for every neighborhood covered in its Urbanware database.
"Urban Mapping's neighborhood boundary information helps us offer our users access to more complete and relevant content," said Bob Upham, Director of Business Development for Yahoo! Geo Technologies. "Allowing users to search by neighborhood yields more appropriate results, adding value and relevancy to the overall experience."
Urban Mapping's collection of neighborhood boundary information is compiled using thousands of primary sources, drawing on real estate, tourism, retail and hospitality industries. In addition to U.S. neighborhood boundary data, Urbanware: Neighborhoods also includes a growing collection of international neighborhood boundary data across Canadian and European cities.
