Stonesoft Boosts Network Security Performance and Scalability With Release of StoneGate IPS 4.3
Stonesoft, an innovative provider of integrated network security and resilient connectivity solutions, today introduced the new StoneGate Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) 4.3. This security solution is designed to improve security at faster speeds and increase overall network visibility while keeping costs low. With this version of its StoneGate IPS software, Stonesoft further extends its unique inline serial clustering capabilities in its IPS appliance, allowing organizations to easily and cost effectively add more security appliances to meet the growing capacity needs.
StoneGate IPS 4.3 goes beyond intrusion detection and prevention functionalities, to provide access control features that can be installed between EtherChannel links -- the aggregation of Ethernet cables that carry information between switches, routers and servers on the network. In this instance the StoneGate IPS 4.3 acts as a combination IPS and Firewall appliance monitoring and blocking access to information for unauthorized users. With this position on the network, Stonesoft customers have greater visibility into core network traffic and can provide a more granular level of security.
Economic pressures are forcing organizations to squeeze as much out of their technology resources as possible. Yet increased reliance on the network for everything from Voice over IP (VoIP) to video conferencing has increased traffic levels substantially and most existing network security products may not be powerful enough to monitor this amount of information effectively. With the release of IPS 4.3, Stonesoft's patented clustering technology allows customers to cluster up to 16 IPS devices as it is needed to meet the demands of growing network traffic. This means customers can maintain the highest level of security without having to rip out existing security hardware and replace it with a higher capacity (and higher priced) product.
"Technologies like VoIP and video conferencing are generating more network traffic than ever before and organizations are struggling just to meet the bandwidth requirements to keep systems running. With all that traffic, there is a greater chance of vulnerability," said Mark Boltz, Senior Solutions Architect with Stonesoft. "StoneGate IPS 4.3 is ideally suited to monitor the heaviest of traffic loads and prevent security breaches. If an organization's traffic load increases, the StoneGate IPS can easily be clustered to boost performance by as much as 60 percent."
The release of StoneGate IPS 4.3 also fully supports IPv6. While the migration to the new IPv6 protocol is still progressing slowly, it has become standard for newer technologies, such as Microsoft Vista, which automatically attempts to use IPv6 addresses, whenever these are available. StoneGate IPS is designed to provide full internal network protection by inspecting both IPv6 traffic and its encapsulated formats over IPv4 and IPv6.
StoneGate IPS 4.3 is available for shipping at the end of June 2008.
