Siebel Systems to Optimize for Intel Itanium Processors

Posted on: Tuesday, 19 April 2005, 03:00 CDT

Siebel Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:SEBL), a leading provider of business applications software, today announced with Intel(R) Corporation that it will certify Siebel business applications on Intel Itanium(R) processor-based platforms. The effort will allow Siebel customers faster access to time-sensitive data, the purchasing flexibility of industry-wide hardware support, low total cost of ownership and high performance and reliability.

Siebel Systems and Intel are working together to ensure the HP/UX operating system will be optimized for Intel's complete range of 64-bit server platforms, including Intel Itanium and Intel(R) Xeon(TM) processor-based systems in future releases. This project is part of a joint development program between Siebel Systems and Intel, and will be issued in an upcoming release.

"We are pleased to be able to offer all of our customers extended choice for performance and scalability of Siebel's customer-facing solutions," said Skip Bacon, VP of Technology at Siebel Systems. "Specifically this effort will provide large enterprise customers improved scalability on large SMP computers, an architecture that provides fast performance by making multiple CPUs available to complete individual processes simultaneously. We look forward to continuing to work with Intel and deliver world-class offerings for our customers in the area of proven large-scale deployments."

Siebel Systems' product development team will work directly with software developers from Intel's Software and Solutions Group to take full advantage of Intel's multi-core technology to deliver higher performing solutions, provide support for the Intel Itanium processor family, and optimize its suite of applications to meet the performance and scalability needs of its largest customers.

"By optimizing for the Intel Itanium processor family, Siebel Systems demonstrates its alignment with customer requirements for improved performance, reliability and scalability," said Richard Wirt, VP of Intel's Software and Solutions Group. "Our long term goal is to ensure the two companies continue to work closely together on software development support, so that Siebel's customers will be able to benefit from future Intel platform advancements."
