Global Transportation Logistics Provider Deploys Palo Alto Networks Next-Generation Firewall

Palo Alto Networks today announced that Koch Logistics, a global transportation logistics company, has selected the PA-4000 Series next-generation firewall to minimize threats and gain visibility and control of Internet applications.
Based in St. Paul, Minnesota, Koch Logistics provides third party transportation, shipping and distribution logistics solutions involving trucking, air-freight, rail and sea shipping for its global clientele. With information technology at the heart of its operations, the company grew increasingly concerned about its inability to view network activity at the application level. Being unable to do so greatly reduced its ability to successfully combat emerging Internet threats. Additionally, the risk of damaging applications entering Koch Logistics' network due to the unauthorized usage of Google Gmail and other webmail programs posed a major concern. To ensure a proactive stance to security, the company knew it required a firewall that provided visibility and control down to the application level.
"Our IT group is responsible for fending off spyware and other web-based threats that can infect our network users," said Bruce Waslie, Senior Systems Engineer for Koch Logistics. "URL filtering alone was not solving this problem - we needed a firewall that enabled us to set policy and scan for threats all the way down to the application level. With Palo Alto Networks next-generation firewall, now we can not only see what's on our network, we can control it."
"Applications and threats have changed, and it's about time the firewall does too," said Steve Mullaney, Vice President of Marketing for Palo Alto Networks. "Gmail and other webmail applications can help increase productivity for the enterprise, but it's vital that IT groups have the ability to make sure they're used safely."
